Why did I become a Self Employed PA?
At the end of 2016 when I was working as both a PA and a Coordinator at the Mind Charity, we were given the unfortunate news that they were closing, as maintenance costs were higher than the profit the company were receiving.
We were told that clients currently receiving support through the company would lose their PA's and would be sent elsewhere.
By this stage I was extremely settled, and had built a huge amount of experience and did not want to lose the hard work I had put in through those two years to have to start all over again.
So I began to wonder whether it would be possible to continue working with the clients I was currently supporting on a self employed basis. I spent the next month researching and checking that this is something I could do.
Because the company was closing down I wouldn't be guilty of taking clients away, and as they had no where else to go at this stage I realised that this really could become a possibility.
By the time clients were informed of Mind's closure in January 2017, I was all set up and ready to begin, all I had to do now was contact my current clients and inform them that I had set up self employed and give them the option to continue with me if they wished. Thankfully for me, all my clients wished for me to continue with them which meant I had a fully made business right from the start. I have never looked back!
Being self employed allows me to work my own way, and a way I feel is best for each individual client.
I work with a person centred approach, no two people are the same, and I will always adapt to working the way that is best for the client.
